Griffith Halls of Residence has introduced a range of sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing our carbon footprint and supporting guests and vistors in making eco-conscious choices.
We operate a minimum waste policy and encourage all on campus to think critically about what they discard. Every apartment is supplied with a dedicated green recycling bin to make sustainable waste management easier.
We accept:
We also collect hard-to-recycle items like used batteries and light bulbs - guests and visitors are encouraged to return these to staff for safe disposal.
In 2024, we expanded our recycling capacity through a waste management merger with Griffith College Dublin (GCD), increasing mixed recycling space and decreasing landfill contributions.
GHR has invested in energy-efficient infrastructure throughout the halls:
To conserve water, we’ve introduced low-flow aerators and are reducing toilet flush volume across apartments.
Visitors to Block 1 will notice our thriving herb garden, growing generous quantities of rosemary and thyme - one of several green spaces we’re proud to maintain as part of a healthier campus environment.
Outside of summer guest visit times, we actively share energy-saving tips with our campus residents, such as:
These small daily habits, when practiced by many, have a big collective impact.
Ireland’s natural beauty is part of its national identity - lush green landscapes, clean air, and fresh water are not just amenities, but invaluable national assets. At GHR, we view environmental responsibility as a shared duty to this island and to future generations. Protecting these resources requires more than awareness - it requires action.
We thank all everyone who visits us for doing their part to protect the planet and help create a more sustainable and resilient Ireland.
